Orchestra Choir of Nations

Classical Symphony Orchestra

The Orchestra Choir of Nations is an ensemble of professional musicians under the direction of concertmaster Matthias Steiner. It is based on the instrumentation of the First Viennese School, the classical symphony orchestra. The sound-ideal is the warm, adaptable and transparent orchestral sound of the European tradition which provides the necessary agility and flexibility for the rhythmic elements of the Choir of Nations’ music.

The Innovation

In the Choir of Nations, the percussion instruments play a different role than in the classical symphony orchestra.

Their original performance practice and form is retained, allowing the listener to experience the authentic sound of the respective culture.

The percussionists’ position is not in the back row, but in the front centre, between the string principals.

The percussion as a small ensemble within the orchestra is responsible for the improvisation that the composition leaves space for, allowing it to directly influence the execution of the moment.

Unique Moments of Performance

This combination of improvisation and composition guarantees unique performances of great coherence and depth.

Smaller Performances

To ensure that the song repertoire of the Choir of Nations sounds convincing in smaller performances too, song arrangements are also provided in a chamber music version with the following instrumentation: soloists, choir, piano/organ, double bass, 2 percussion.
